Easy Crochet Wrist Warmers Pattern

Even though, as I type this, the city is covered in inches of snow with thick flakes continuing to steadily fall I am optimistic that spring is just around the corner. It's not that this winter has been horrible - it's actually been a roller coaster of warm days and somewhat cold days, which is actually ideal for using my newest crochet accessories; wrist warmers! I had been wanting a pair of wrist warmers for some time (surprised I've been crocheting this long and I still didn't have a pair). I also had a vibrantly pink merino wool yarn that I purchased when I first started crocheting (you know, the kind of yarn you buy on impulse for a "special" project and then it sits in your stash for 9 years, waiting). Essentially the stars aligned and it became clear to me that this "special" yarn would be perfect for crochet wrist warmers (or fingerless gloves).

For my first pair I went with a super simple design using half double crochet stitches and alternating rows working in the back loops and front loops. The result is a very soft and flexible fabric that allows just enough breatheability without losing cozy warmth. Ready to make your pair? Then let's get started!

Crochet Wrist Warmers Pattern

Finished size: 7.5" length

Pattern notes: Pattern is worked in rows alternating each row using the front loops and back loops. You can easily adjust the length by adding or using less starting chains. Once you've made a rectangle or square that is big enough to stretch comfortably around your hands you can slip stitch the seams - don't forget to leave an opening for your thumb before stitching the rest!

Materials
-100g worsted weight/medium (4) yarn, such as Stitch Nation Full O' Sheep 100% Peruvian Wool
-Size 5.00mm/H crochet hook

Stitches (US terms)
ch - chain
hdc - half double crochet
BLO - back loop only
FLO - front loop only
sl st - slip stitch

Pattern
Row 1: ch 30, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (28 sts)
Row 2: ch2, in BLO hdc in each st across, turn
Row 3: ch2, in FLO hdc in each st across, turn
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until there are 17 rows total, or size needed. Do not fasten off.

Row 2: Work in the back loop only

Row 3: Work in the front loop only

Place hand over rectangle to determine where thumb opening will be and place a stitch marker. For my wrist warmers this was approx. 4" up from the wrist. Fold the piece in half and sl st through both layers in the next 14 sts, skip 6 sts (for the thumb), and sl st in remaining sts. Fasten off and weave ends.
