Crochet Halloween C2C Squares

Nostalgia was the main driver behind these Halloween C2C crochet squares. I kept thinking of old timey jack-o-lanterns, witch hats, black cats, and ghosts - basically the classic icons associated with spooky season!

Each square was made using the corner to corner (C2C) crochet technique. In this technique, you're crocheting in a diagonal direction - from corner to corner - and using double crochet stitches throughout. It's really fun and a bit addictive when you get the hang of it!

I used worsted weight (4) acrylic yarn and a size 4.00mm/G-6 hook to crochet these Halloween C2C squares but you can try making these with finer or thicker yarn for a smaller or bigger size square. Just be sure to use the appropriate size hook as well.

The finished size for each of my squares turned out to be 17.5” wide x 15.5” tall. I guess this would technically make them rectangles but squares just sounds better. Halloween C2C crochet rectangles?

There are a few things you could do with these squares. Here are a few ideas:

  • Join them to make a lap blanket

  • Hang them as wall art

  • Join 2 squares to make a pillow cover

  • Use a finer yarn and smaller hook to make placemats or mug rugs

The patterns are available for free. You can also purchase the inexpensive and ad-free PDF version of the pattern so you can print it and have it handy as you work. The patterns can be purchased in my Etsy shop individually or as part of a crochet pattern bundle.
