June is not only the month when summer officially begins, it’s also a very special month for LGBTQ+ communities. This month is important as we remember the struggles, specifically the violent Stonewall Riots, that LGBTQ communities have faced and continue to face. I wanted to make something that would serve as a reminder to be kind, inclusive, and respectful. This crochet rainbow flag plant cozy is my way to celebrate and support our human need for self expression and to love who we want to love.
Would you like to make your own crochet rainbow flag cozy? This beginner friendly crochet pattern will take just a few short minutes, depending on the size of your pot of course! Scroll down for the free pattern.

Crochet Rainbow Flag Plant Cozy
To make this crochet plant cozy I used a 4.00mm hook and worsted weight acrylic yarn.
The cozy is worked from the bottom up. Each pot is different so if yours tapers like a typical terracotta pot, you’ll want to increase accordingly but if your pot is a straight cylinder or has a more subtle angle you don’t need to worry about increases. The cozy is worked in the round, joining with a slip stitch at the end of each round. Do not turn at the end of each round. Starting chain does not count as a stitch. Keep your stitches on the tight side so the cozy stays put.
This pattern uses American crochet terms.
Stitches use:
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
Round 1: Starting with violet, make as many chains needed to snuggly fit around the base of your pot, join with sl st to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain. My pot had a base diameter of 2.75″ and I made a foundation chain of 40.

Round 2: ch 1, sc in each ch around, join with sl st
In the following rounds switch the colors in each round according to the rainbow flag colors (from bottom to top): violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, red
Rounds 3-7: ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st
Fasten off and weave ends. I hope you enjoy this plant pot sleeve!
