Lacy Chevron Top Crochet Pattern

Introducing the Peephole Chevron Crochet Top! Inspired by a knit top I had in my early teens (scroll down to see a side by side comparison!), this crochet version is quick and easy to make. I think this kind of top is versatile in that you can wear it as is or you can wear it like a vest with a long sleeve top or dress shirt underneath. It would also look awesome with different yarn colors since the chevron pattern works really well with multi-colored stripes. Make your own breezy summer top with this lacy chevron crochet pattern.

This is my first time releasing a garment that I designed myself (this upcycled sports bra served as good practice). I am still learning so I am both excited and nervous to share this peephole chevron top!

Lacy Chevron Top

Crochet Pattern

Pattern Notes

This top is worked in 2 separate pieces that are later joined together. The pattern starts from the bottom hem and works up to the top.

Sizing

This top can be adjusted to fit your measurements. It's a loose-fitting top that drapes nicely and doesn't require shaping.

Measure your natural waist and add 1-1.5" for ease, then divide that number by 2. The ribbed hem will stretch but the amount of elasticity will vary depending on stitch tension and the type of yarn used.

Example: The hem on the yellow top measures 30" with both pieces joined or 15" each for the front and back. The yarn I used for the yellow top did not result in as much elasticity as the green so the ribbing did not scrunch back as much to it's original shape.

For the length of the top, measure from where you want your armhole opening to be to your waist or where you want the hem to rest.

Example: The yellow top measures 12" from armhole to hem.

Pattern Instructions

Ribbed Hem with 4.00mm hook

R1. ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across to end, turn (7sts)

R2. ch 1, BLO in each st across, turn.

Repeat R2 until the hem is the length needed for your waist measurements (see need note above). End with a number of stitches that are multiples of 10. For this top, the length of the ribbed hem was 15" or 80 rows. Do not cut yarn.

Front

Switch to 5.00mm hook

R1. Turn your work lengthwise and evenly work a sc st into each of the 80 rows so you are left with 80 sc stitches on which to crochet the rest of the top.

Begin peephole chevron and closed chevron sequence: 4 rows peephole, 2 rows closed.

R2. ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in 1st st, dc in each of the next 3 sts, *sk 2 sts, dc in each of the next 4 sts, ch 2, dc in each of the next 4 sts, repeat from* to last 6 sts, sk 2, dc in each of the next 4 sts, dc in tch, turn.

R3. ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in 1st st, *dc in each of the next 3 sts, sk 2 sts, dc in each of the next 3 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) into ch-2 sp, repeat from* to last 6 sts, sk 2 sts, dc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 dc in tch, turn.

Repeat R3 two more times.

R4. ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in 1st st, *dc in each of the next 3 sts, dc2tog, dc in each of the next 3 sts, 3 dc into the ch-2 sp, repeat from* to last 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 dc in tch, turn.

R5. ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in 1st st, *dc in each of the next 3 sts, dc2tog, dc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from* to last 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in each of the next 4 sts, dc in tch, turn.

Repeat R2

Repeat R3 three times.

Shape armhole and neckline

R6. ch 1, sl st in the 1 st and each of the next 7 sts, sl st into each ch in ch-2 sp, ch 3, *dc in each of the next 8 sts, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, repeat from*, one more time, dc in each of the next 6 sts, dc2tog, turn leaving remaining sts.

Front

Starting ch does not count as st from here on.

R7. ch 3, dc2tog, dc in each st across to last 2 sts, dc2tog in last 2 sts, leave tch, turn.

Repeat R7 until 5 sts remain.

At this point you can decide how long to make the straps by working 1 to 2 more rows across the 5 stitches or leaving as is and cutting the yarn.

Starting on the other side, pick up a sl st on the armhole edge and work the same as the first front.

Back - work same as Front

Assembly

Sew the side seams from hem to armhole.

Try on the top and make any needed adjustments to the straps before sewing them together.

Weave in any ends and your top is done!
