How to Crochet Long Wave Stitch Video Tutorial

Hey there, crocheters! Today, I'm sharing with you a mesmerizing stitch that will add elegance and fluidity to your crochet projects - the Long Wave Stitch. With its rhythmic wave pattern, this stitch is perfect for creating cozy scarves, stylish shawls, and even dreamy blankets that evoke a calming ocean-like ambiance in your home decor. Not only that but the long wave stitch is very meditative and relaxing making it an excellent stitch for projects to unwind to. Now let’s get started on how to crochet the Long Wave Stitch!

The Long Wave Stitch

One of the things I love about the Long Wave Stitch is its versatility. There isn't a wrong or right side, making it ideal for reversible projects. You can choose which side to showcase based on your preference and the overall aesthetic you're aiming for. The Long Wave Stitch is formed by combining groups and reverse groups, creating a dynamic visual texture. It's worked over a multiple of 14 stitches plus 1, along with an additional chain for the foundation chain. Don't worry; I'll break it down for you step by step!

Materials

In this example I’m using a 4.00mm crochet hook and some worsted weight cotton yarn in two complementary colors. I'll be alternating between these colors every two rows to enhance the captivating effect of the wave pattern.

Abbreviations (US Terminology)

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

tr - treble crochet

tch - turning chain

sk - skip

rep - repeat

Notes and Special Stitches

Group: 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1tr in next 3 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 sc in next 2 sts Reverse Group: 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 sc in next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 tr in next 2 sts

Multiple of 14 sts + 1 (add 1 for base chain). In this example I’m starting with 30 chains, which means that 28 is a multiple of 14, plus 1 is 29 and the additional chain in the foundation chain gives us a total of 30 chains.
