Have I mentioned before how much I love dolphins? I feel so blessed to have had the chance to swim with bottlenose dolphins in Mexico and spinner dolphins in Hawaii. Not only do these amazing creatures look like they're permanently smiling but they also seem to have such a playful character and outgoing personality. Dolphins also seem to have a mischievous sense of humour as we found out during my bachelorette party in Cancun. While the dolphins were performing their final tricks for us one of them decided to leave us with a parting gift. We were all grossed out but somehow found it funny despite being so close to dolphin poop. It's almost like they're a distant relative to dogs. Also, did you know killer whales are dolphins too? I had no idea until I checked out these cool dolphin facts on Greenpeace. With all these awesome things about dolphins it's no wonder I had to churn out this dolphin amigurumi crochet pattern for Dolphin Day.

Dolphin Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
Crochet Dolphin Amigurumi Pattern
This would make such a great gift for a dolphin lover or maybe you're trying to put together your own yarn aquarium, which sounds pretty awesome. The pattern is designed to challenge beginner crocheters who are ready for their next fun project.
Size: Approx 5.5” length
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn, such as Bernat Super Value in Grey
3.75mm and 3.00mm crochet hooks
Polyfil stuffing
4mm safety eyes
Yarn needle
Stitch marker
Abbreviations (US terms)
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
inc - increase (2 sts in same st)
dec - decrease (ie. sc2tog)
work even - complete round/row without inc/dec
PM - place marker
Pattern Notes
The dolphin is made up of the following parts:
Body
Beak
Dorsal fin
Flippers
Flukes
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, do not turn or join at the end of each round unless specifically stated.
Use a stitch marker to keep track of the start and end of each round.
Body
Using 3.75mm hook (5g of polyfil, 10g yarn)
Round 1: sc 6 sts in magic ring or Ch 2 and sc 6 sts in second ch from hook.
Round 2: inc in each st (12 sts)
Round 3: sc in each st (12 sts)
Round 4: complete the following [sc in next st, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rounds 5-8: sc in each st (18 sts)
The next increase round starts to shape the hump where the dorsal fin will go. Use another stitch marker to keep track of the dorsal fin/hump placement as pictured.
Insert safety eyes.
Round 9: inc x 3, sc in next 6 sts, inc in next 3 sts, sc in next 6 sts (24)
Rounds 10-12: sc in each st (24 sts)
Round 13: complete the following [sc in next 2 sts, dec] x 3, sc in next 12 sts (21 sts)
Round 14: complete the following [sc in next 2 sts, dec] x 3, sc in next 9 sts PM around stitch 4 and 5 of this round - this is to mark where the dorsal fin will go later (18 sts)
Attach safety eyes between Rounds 2 and 4.
Rounds 15-17: sc in each st (18 sts)
Begin to add stuffing.
Round 18: complete the following [sc in next st, dec] x 6 (12 sts)
Round 19: sc in next st, dec x 2, sc in next 7 sts (10 sts)
Round 20: dec x 5
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Beak
Using 3.75mm hook
Round 1: sc 6 sts in magic ring or Ch 2 and sc 6 sts in second ch from hook.
Round 2-3: sc in each st (6 sts)
Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.
Dorsal Fin
Using 3.75mm hook
Round 1: sc 4 sts in magic ring or Ch 2 and sc 4 sts in second ch from hook.
Round 2: sc in each st (4 sts)
Round 3: inc in each st (8 sts)
Round 4: inc, sc in next 2 sts, dec, sc in next 2 sts, inc (9 sts)
Round 5: inc, sc in next 3 sts, dec, sc n next 2 sts, inc (10 sts)
Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.
Flippers – Make 2
Round 1: sc 5 sts in magic ring or Ch 2 and sc 5 sts in second ch from hook.
Round 2: sc in each st (5 sts)
Round 3: complete the following [sc in next st, inc] x 2, sc in next st (7 sts)
Round 4: inc, sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 3 sts (9 sts)
Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.
Flukes – Make 2
Round 1: sc 5 sts in magic ring or Ch 2 and sc 5 sts in second ch from hook.
Round 2: complete the following [sc in next st, inc] x 2, sc in next st (7 sts)
Round 3: sc in next 2 sts, inc in next 3 sts, sc in next 2 sts (10 sts)
Round 4: sc in next 4 sts, inc in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts (12 sts)
Round 5: sc in each st (12 sts)
Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.
Assembly
Sew dorsal fin over hump. Sew beak over the front. Sew flippers to the sides of the body around Round 9. Sew flukes on either side of the end of the body.
